Hantaviruses are a globally distributed group of rodent-borne, negative-sense, single-stranded RNA viruses capable of causing severe human disease. Human infection most commonly occurs through inhalation of aerosolised rodent excreta, including urine, faeces, and saliva, although transmission through rodent bites, scratches, or close contact with infected individuals has been reported for certain hantavirus species .Emerging and newly identified hantavirus strains continue to present a public health concern due to their potential for severe respiratory and renal disease and their capacity for geographic spread. Andes virus is a type of hantavirus that can cause a severe respiratory disease in people, called Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS)

The qPCR kit is designed for the qualitative detection of New Hantavirus (Andes virus) RNA by the real-time reverse-transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-qPCR) method. Detection of Andes virus is based on the amplification of a specific conserved RNA sequence and measurement of the amplification product during the PCR process using fluorophore-labelled probes.
