Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) PCR Detection Kit
Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) PCR Kit
Overview.
Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a common vaginal infection caused by an imbalance in the normal bacterial flora of the vagina, particularly a decrease in Lactobacillus species and an overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria such as Gardnerella vaginalis. It often presents with symptoms such as a thin, grayish-white vaginal discharge with a fishy odor, although some women may be asymptomatic. BV is not classified as a sexually transmitted infection, but sexual activity can increase the risk. Diagnosis is typically based on clinical criteria (Amsel’s criteria) or laboratory tests. Treatment usually involves antibiotics such as metronidazole or clindamycin. If left untreated, BV can increase the risk of pelvic inflammatory disease, complications during pregnancy, and susceptibility to sexually transmitted infections.
