Overview:

HLA-B57 (B57) is a specific human leukocyte antigen (HLA) gene associated with drug hypersensitivity to the antiretroviral drug in HIV-infected patients. B57 is an HLA-B serotype and a split antigen from the B57 broad antigen, and the sister serotype is B58. It is most associated with drug-induced inflammatory disease of the skin. Although used as an HIV treatment, sensitive individuals have fever, skin rashes, fatigue, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea as well as some respiratory symptoms.

This assay is an in vitro PCR test for the qualitative identification of the HLA-B57 allele in human whole blood samples. It consists of PCR primers specific to HLA-B57 subtypes and a hydrolysis probe for detection in a highly sensitive qPCR master mix.
