Overview.
Coxiella burnetii is a gram negative bacterial pathogen commonly infecting animals such as goats, sheep and cattle. It is the causative agent of Q-fever, a zoonotic disease known to be prevalent worldwide. Animals infected shed the bacteria in heir birth products, milk, urine and feces, which in turn contaminate the surrounding dust infecting organisms that inhale it, including humans. Q-fever usually results in reproductive disorders when infecting animals. Symptoms include abortion, infertility stillbirth and mastitis.
