Overview.
Chlamydia trachomatis infections are the most prevalent bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STI) recognized throughout the world. Men between 20 and 24 years and women between 16 and 19 years have the highest prevalence of chlamydial infection, and the majority of women with this infection are asymptomatic. However, if left untreated in women, this can develop into pelvic inflammatory disease, leading to tubal factor infertility and ectopic pregnancy, therefore early diagnosis is essential, as this can be prevented if treated earlier.
