Overview.
Candida auris is emerging as a multidrug-resistant yeast causing invasive health care-associated infection with crude mortality ranging from 30% to 72%. C. auris infection is usually asymptomatic, but can cause infections within the ear, blood and wounds. Importantly, the pathogen can spread through contaminated surfaces and fomites, highlighting the mechanism by which nosocomial infections occur.
C. auris is commonly mis-identified by microbiologists as the clinical presentation is non-specific and it is therefore often difficult to differentiate between other types of systemic infections. There is a clear lack of diagnostic services available in this area, and so Advanced Molecular Diagnostics Ltd have produced a real time PCR assay to fulfil that need.
