Mycoplasma hominis is a small bacterium without a cell wall that is part of the normal genital tract flora in some individuals. But it can act as an opportunistic pathogen, particularly in the urogenital and reproductive systems. It is associated with a range of infections, including bacterial vaginosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, postpartum fever, and complications in pregnancy such as chorioamnionitis and preterm labour. Due to its lack of a cell wall, M. hominis is inherently resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics like penicillins and cephalosporins.
